He married Estella Polina Avella Rosina Pea in 1891. James' grandmother Susan (Moyers/Meyers) Rumbaugh was a Delaware Indian and his other grandmother Susan Crumley was a Cherokee Indian. This was found under a picture of Susan Meyer's grandson, James Crumley. This eludes to the fact that our Meyers relatives could have been Native American, Delaware Tribe. Susan was the sister of Mary Meyers, wife of Benjamin Oakley. James' mother, Charlotte, would be a first cousin to our great grandfather William.      Thomas Crumley Sr was born in March 1762 at Fredrick County, Virginia; or Spartenburg County, South Carolina.2 He was the son of John Crumley and Hannah Falconer.2,3 Thomas Crumley Sr married Ruth Morgan, daughter of Henry Morgan and Deborah Poole, at Fredrick County, Virginia.2 Thomas Crumley Sr appeared on the census of 1790 at Newberry County, South Carolina; Free White Males Under 16: 1; Free White Males 16 and Over: 2; Free White Females: 3.4 He appeared on the census of 1830 at Habersham County, Georgia; Males 60 to 70: 1; Females 70 to 80: 1.5 He died on 10 March 1836 at Habersham County, Georgia.2 He "Frederick Co., VA is now Berkeley Co., WV. Migrated with parents to Newberry Co., SC, in 1770, at the age of 8. Thomas received the proceeds from the sale of his father's, John's, 219 acres when John sold the land to his brother William in 1770. When the will of Thomas' father, John, was probated in 1794, Thomas received only five shillings of sterling money. One reason for this omission in John's will is that Thomas had already been given his inheritance. Thomas fought in the Revolutionary War in the years 1781 and 1782 in and around Mecklenburg Co., NC. He served as a substitute for Theodore Webb in the war under Capt. Gordon Lewis. He was sent on a guard detail to Augusta, GA, and later he was discharged in Newberry Co., SC in 1782." "While living in Spartenburg, Thomas had bought and sold land in Buncombe County, NC, which he had obtained becuase of his involvement in the Revolutionary War.It is believed that Thomas' family moved to Buncombe Co., NC, in early 1817 where they appeared on the 1820 Federal Census". " By the 1820 census of Buncombe Co., NC, four males in the Thomas Crumley family were gone, only one female remained with Thomas and Ruth. It is believed that Robert had married and stayed in South Carolina along with an oldest sister, Rachel, as no record can be found where they ever went to North Carolina. Thomas Charles stayed in South Carolina with Robert, but by 1830 he was in Buncombe Co., NC, as Head of Household and by 1840 he was in Habersham Co, GA, (in Toccah District where his father had lived). Henry Morgan and William Smith (the nephew) had their own families and they traveled with the older Thomas to North Carolina as the 1820 NC Census indicated. Robert went to northeast Georgia later from South Carolina as the 1830 Census of Habersham County indicates. It is believed that these three Crumleys and their families (Thomas Sr., Henry, and William) had migrated to North Carolina searching for gold.and to Habersham Co., GA, in the 1820s.William Smith Crumley (the nephew whom Thomas raised from an early age of four) and Henry Morgan Crumley (Thomas' son) also bought land in Buncombe Co. in 1817 and moved there with Thomas. (This William Smith Crumley is the same Rev. William Smith Crumley who went to Habersham Co., GA, on March 10, 1822.) Thomas, Henry and William appeared in the 1820 Federal Census of Buncombe Co., NC, as Head of Households (Thomas with age braket of 45 plus and William Smith with age bracket of 16/26 years). William Smith was born in 1794 so this wuld coorelate with the Census. Henry Morgan appeared in the age bracket of 26/45 as this would correlate also. Henry was born about 1790/92. These three Crumleys appeared only one time on the NC Federal Census (Buncombe Co. - 1820). These three appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Habersham Co., Georgia. Land records seem to indicate that Thomas, Henry Morgan, and William Smith came to Buncombe Co., NC in 1817 and left in late 1821 and early 1822 for Habersham Co., GA. The 1830 census of Habersham County, GA, reveals Thomas to be in the age bracket of 65 or older, Henry Morgan about 35 and Robert about 35 and William Smith about 35, Benjamin about 45 and Robert H. about 25. William Smith was the son of Charles Crumley (Thomas' brother next to him who died around 1800). It is believed that Thomas acquired land thru land lotteries, land grants and outright purchases. He possessed land in NC, SC, and GA during his lifetime. While living in Habersham County, Georgia, Thomas applied for a Revolutionary War Pension on April 10, 1833 under the War Claim Act dated June 7, 1832. The pension was approved giving Thoams forty dollars a month starting March, 1834. Thoams was an invalid at this time cared for by his daughter Hannah who was married to Elias Berry. We find Hannah Crumley Berry at the age of 62 applying for Power of Attorney in Dahlonega, Georgia (Lumpkin Co.) in October 1852 as a legal surviving child of Thoams in receiving the remainder of the War Pension. Approval of this authority was granted by the Justice of Peace in Union County, GA, where Thomas had died and was buried. Thomas died March 10, 1836. His wife, Ruth, died in May 1837. Both are buried in the Revolutionary War Veterans Cemetery, Union County, Georgia. NOTE: Two Robert Crumleys appeared on the 1830 Habersham County, GA, Census. The older Robert was the son of this third generation Thomas Crumley. Robert H. Crumley listed ont he 1830 census was the oldest son of Thomas' brother Benjamin, who died in Union County, GA, also. Robert H. moved into Murray County, GA, then to Jefferson County, AL."6

James Crumley From THE CRUMLEY FAMILY, by Paul W. Morton. "The name "Crumley" has been spelled in various ways. James memtions a brother, Thomas, and a sister, Joan in his will. No records can be found of them in Virginia. The Crumleys were Quakers and attended the Hopewell Meeting in Frederick County Virginia. James Crumley was a Quaker who came to Chester County Pennsylvania in 1731 from Yorkshire, England. He married a Scottish lass by the name of Catherine Gilkey in 16732 in Chester County Pennsylvania. They had five children and migrated to Frederick County Virginia, now Berkley County, West Virginia in 1743 or 1744. On June 3, 1744 James Crumley bought 250 acres of land from Giles Chapman, in an area known as Black Creek Valley, Frederick County, Viginia (now Berkley County, West Virginia). James Crumley, (Cromley, Crumbley) American progenitor of this family, was born in Yorkshire, England, and died in Frederick County, Virginia, between Jun 17, 1757, the date of his will and August 9, 1764, the date of the probate. Giles Chapman conveyed to him a tract of land in Frederick County on or near the head of a fork in Yorkshireman's Branch. He is called "Cordwainer" in the conveyance. He was a member ot the Society of Friends and of the Hopewell Monthly Meeting, as showen by the fallowing: Isaac Perkins, for many years Justice, Captain of Militia, and a Vestryman of Frederick County, Virginia used his influence to annelirate the sufferings of Friends caused by severe laws governing dissenters from the Established Church. In 1751 he presented a petition to the Court asking that the Vestry for Frederick Parish be dissolved, charging misappropriation fo funds. In the following February the General Assembly passed an act charging the Vestry of Frederick Parish with oppressive and corrupt practices, and along with two other Friends, James Cromley was elected to the New Vestry.3 " He was born circa 1712 at Yorkshire, England; or County Monoghan, Ireland.1 He was the son of John Crumley and Mary (?).2 James Crumley married Catherine Gilkey, daughter of David Gilkey and Barbara (?), circa 1732.1 James Crumley immigrated circa 1731/32 to Chester County, Pensylvania.1 He left a will on 17 June 1757 at Frederick County, Virginia; In the nature of God, Amen, I, James Crumley, Cordwainer, of Frederick County and Colony of Virginia, being at present in perfect health and memory...do make this my last Willand Testament in matter and for following:
