PONTOTOC - Hortense Dorsett Chittom, 81, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, after a long illness. A native of Pontotoc, she had lived at Rosewood Residence in Tupelo for the last three-and-a-half years. She was a homemaker, and a wonderful cook and seamstress. She was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church and a retired employee of Action Industries. She enjoyed gardening.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Baldwin, Nowell & Clark Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Greg Herndon officiating. Burial will be in Toccopola Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Terri Chittom Snipes (C.W. ?Corky?) of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Tami Chittom of Pontotoc; one son, Mark Chittom (Becky) of Franklin, Tenn; six grandchildren, Dr. J.D. Snipes (Ashley) and Andy Snipes (Courtney) of Muscle Shoals, Evan Snipes (Amanda) of Montgomery, Ala., Chelsea Chittom, Anna Chittom and Hilary Chittom, all of Franklin, Tenn; four great-granddaughters, Anna Kate Snipes, Emma Claire Snipes, Brantleigh Snipes and Briley Snipes, all of Muscle Shoals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Van Terry Dorsett and Lula Elizabeth Dorsett.1,2

Miss Tami Bess Chittom, age 49, of Pontotoc, Miss., died Oct. 26, 2009, at Helen Keller Hospital in Muscle Shoals, Ala. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, and 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Baldwin Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Baldwin Funeral Home chapel, with Brother Greg Herndon and Brother David Leseur officiating. Burial will follow in Toccopola Cemetery.

Miss Chittom was born Jan. 18, 1960, to the late Marvin L. and Hortense Dorsett Chittom.

She was a 1978 graduate of Pontotoc High School and was employed by Walmart in Pontotoc for 26 years. She was friendly, generous and loving to everyone she met.

She was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church.

Miss Chittom is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Terri and Charles (Corky) Snipes, of Muscle Shoals, Ala; and her brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Becky Chittom, of Franklin, Tenn. She is also survived by three nephews, Dr. J.D. Snipes (Ashley), Andy Snipes (Courtney), and Evan Snipes (Amanda); three nieces, Chelsea Chittom, Anna Chittom, and Hilary Chittom; and four great-nieces, Anna Kate Snipes, Brantleigh Snipes, Emma Claire Snipes and Briley Snipes.

Pallbearers are J.D. Snipes, Andy Snipes, Evan Snipes, Walter Chittom and Dustin Burnett.1,2

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Jacobson company chapel for John M. Pace, 87, member of the Grand Army of the Republic, who died Thursday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Hamill, 10711 Powell Blvd. Burial will be in the Crystal Lake cemetery, Corvallis.

    Mr. Pace enlisted with the 114th Ohio infantry in 1861. He was born December 7, 1845, in Zanesville, Ohio. In 1877 he married Anne Tippen. The couple moved to Cowilz county, Washington, and farmed until 1913. He lived in Corvallis from 1913 to 1923, when he came to Portland. He was the father of Edgar E., La Fay Luther and John Pace of Portland; Franklin D. Pace of Seattle, Mrs. Martha Gadbaw, Kelso; Mrs. Caroline Grindle, Wenathee, Washington; Mrs. Charlotte Davies, Banks, Oregon; Mrs. Luella Pode, Yachaats; Mrs. Frances Whittemore, Newport; 34 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
